"Northern Wales: Snowdonia, Caenarfon & Welsh Resorts" Tour
August 20-26; September 17-23, 2006
$690.00 per person double occupancy (7
day tour)
The
northern region of Wales is contrasted with wild rugged mountains and broad
beaches, popular for seaside resorts. Mt. Snowdon, in the Snowdonia National
Park, stands out for miles, and interestingly enough, served as a training base
for climbers eager to conquer Mt. McKinley. Slate mines cover hillsides along
with lush forested areas with rushing waterfalls. The coastal area, where you
hotel is located on the seafront, are long and clean, offering you a calm and
relaxed atmosphere.
Included in the tour excursions on different days:
Snowdonia Trail: Down the pretty Vale of Conwy, to the village of Betws-y-Coed, where the raging river Lledr, Llugwy and Conwy meet. We travel past Swallow Falls before reaching Blanenau Ffestiniog, site of the 19th century Llechwedd slate caverns (shown below right). This day you will experience the richness of the natural beauty of this area primarily in inland woodlands.

High Adventure: You'll follow along the north coast line to Caenarfon, where the old town clusters below the 13th century castle (shown below left). Then on to pretty Porthmadog, home to the Welsh Highland Railway, returning via the Snowdonia mountain passes to Llanberis (below middle) with its Welsh Slate Museum. The pass over the mountains is spectacular, and you can imagine the hikers in their grueling training on Mt. Snowdon for bigger mountain adventures. This day is full of contrasts, from castles to rugged mountains to mining. You will be amazed at the variety in this small region. At the hotel on the ocean, you will reflect upon your interesting day.
Bodnant Gardens:
On this half day tour, you will explore the terraces, formal lawns, wooded valleys,
streams and wild gardens all within Bodnant Gardens, home to a superb range
of rhododendrons, magnolias, camellias and a magnificent laburnum arch. The
rest of the day you will be able to enjoy your seaside resort to relax, swim,
shop or do whatever you please.
Extra Value: An optional tour will be offered by your driver (for a minimal price) on your free day. However, you may want to enjoy your ocean front resort and relax. It's up to you.
