2006 Switzerland Reservation Form

The beauty of Austria and Switzerland unfolds before you on this marvelous journey. Once every three years, Jeanne offers this special tour to Europe. Breathtaking scenery at every turn, dramatic mountains, thundering waterfalls, melodic cow bells, fragrant flowers, and crystal clear lakes will awe you on this tour.

Highlights will be the spectacular passes through the impressive Alps which are covered with glaciers and ice. Who knows, you might even find something of Guthrie on a hilltop.

The tour pick up points actually originate in the London, England area. Jeanne and Larry Guthrie will serve as your escorts throughout the tour.

Day 1: England to Northern France
After you are met by the shuttle bus, you will join the main motorcoach and continue south through
England to Dover. You will enjoy the peace and quiet of the English countryside as you leave the outskirts of the London area. Soon you will find yourself in lush pastures with glimpses of churches and cathedrals. Once in Dover, we will board the ferry to Calais, France. The rest of this day will be spent traveling through the farming areas of France for our first overnight in Northern France.  Dinner will be on your own tonight.

Day 2: To
Feldkirch, Austria
We will continue our journey through
France and into Austria. It is amazing to see the change in scenery and vegetation as we cross country boarders. We will be traveling via historical Strasbourg where we will only have time for a brief stop, with no time to tour the entire town. Early evening we reach our hotel in Feldkirch, Austria, where we stay for three nights.

Day 3: Day at leisure
The charming town of
Feldkirch, in the far west of Austria, is near the borders of Germany, Liechtenstein and Switzerland, and holds plenty of attractive sights and activities. You will enjoy the day just relaxing and exploring the Medieval town of Feldkirch on your own. Perhaps take in the Schattenburg Castle, or sign up for an optional tour to the small country of Liechtenstein.

Day 4:
Constance & Germany
Lake Constance
is divided down the center by the Switzerland - German boarder. We will have time to explore the town of Constance with its magnificent mansion, medieval houses and tiny alleys. We'll visit the floral island of Mainau to admire the rich abundance of flowers & shrubs. We'll cross to Meersburg, Germany, and return to Feldkirch along the German shores via Lindau and Bregenz.

Day 5: Glacier Express, Switzerland
We say good-bye to our home in Feldkirch and travel to Reichenau, where we board the Glacier Express Railway, the slowest express train in the world. It takes you through some of the most stunning scenery imaginable! After rejoining our motorcoach, we drive to our hotel at
Sachseln, Switzerland for three nights.

Day 6: In Sachseln OR Optional Tour
Today you have the choice of spending the day in our home town of Sachseln, located in the idyllic mountainous region overlooking Lake of Sarnen. Or you may prefer to join Jeanne and Larry on the Optional Tour (minimal cost extra) over the Brunig Pass to Brienz, famous for its wood carving school and traditions. Then on to Grindelwald, where the more adventurous travelers can take a train ride up the North face of the Eiger Mountain - the most dangerous rock face in the
Alps. Be assured there is plenty to do in Grindelwald, Larry's favorite area of Switzerland, if you choose not to ride the train into the back country. On our way back to our hotel, we will have a short stop in Interlaken, meaning between two lakes. A lovely area.

Day 7:
Lake Lucerne
We will first travel to the little Swiss
village of Altdorf, site of William Tell's adventures and the capital of the Uri canton. Then we go via Fluelen, Sisikon, Brunnen, Gersau and Vitnau to Lucerne, Jeanne's favorite city in Switzerland. We will have a guided tour of this wonderful lakeside city, and time to shop and explore. Lucerne's Chapel Bridge at right.

Day 8: To
Rheims, France
Today we must leave Switzerland behind. We drive north to the Champagne region of France where we will see miles of vineyards where the famous French wine grapes are grownTonight we stay near the city of Rheims for our last tour night in this beautiful area of France.  Breakfast only. Dinner will be on your own.

Day 9 : Homeward
We will return on the Calais, France to Dover, England ferry, and head back to our original pick up points in England. With fond memories, treasures and many photos later, we say good-bye to our fellow travelers, and new found friends. Breakfast included.
